Fascinating mystery album with Scottish, English, Asian and Australian connections
Amongst all 140 images, this album contains a number of named and dated photographs which pose an interesting challenge - using the power of Flickr, with all the knowledge and sleuthing skills of its users, just how many of these images can we identify, and what can we find out about the people they portray? I have tried to place all photographs and studios on the map, which makes for fascinating viewing given that we have pictures here from Scotland, England, Ireland, France, Spain, India, Sri Lanka, Burma, and Australia! Here are some other 'quick links': Detailed view of all photographs Photographs with notes Photographs with dates Edinburgh studios Glasgow studios Burmah studios Ceylon studios Australian studios Photographs of the Dickson family Photographs of the Clarke sisters from Melbourne Finally, please do tell all your friends and contacts about this set to help with the quest.

Liaisons Cordiales (France and Britain)
Another group called the "Entente Cordiale" is in existence, so the idea of this new group is to higlight the Liasions Cordiales (rather than dangereuses (,,,)between France and Britain
This entails to rely on historic and cultural convergence between France and Britain and speak about the contribution which each country had for the benefit of the other.
The "Entente Cordiale" was much used and abused as well as derided as the "Mesentente Cordiale" . Still such "entente" as it is it has to do with the brighter side of the Anglo-French relationship, which perhaps could be described, because of its ups and downs as a love-hate relationship.
THIS group is interested in highlighting the british presence in France and vice versa the French presence in the United Kingdom.
the history goes a long way and examples could be given throughout the centuries from Aleonore d'Aquitaine, Queen of England to Churchill and de Gaulle, not forgetting the long aray of French exiles in England and the English expatriates in France - la Promenade des Anglais in Nice, the Wallace drinking fountains in Paris, the Impressionists stay in London - examples are gallore.
If you have any examples about such theme please submit: looking forward to it.
-------------------------

Vintage Eyes That Speak
Essentially, this group is dedicated to vintage, un-manipulated photographs in which the eyes of humans -or- animals dominate. By "Vintage" we mean pre-1980, and black and white, primarily. There is no restriction on the type of image: Snaphots, Photobooth and Vernacular are just as appropriate as formal portraiture. Again, heavily cropped or manipulated images are a bummer and will be deleted. So will original images downloaded from someone else's blog, Google Images, and not from your dresser drawer. There's a place and a time for that, but I 'd prefer that it not be here. Images co-opted from a third party will be deleted. Honor system. All in favor?
If you have to have a detail, please post a composite of the photo and its original context. We are really going to be sticklers and purists about this, deleting heavily cropped images that are obviously out of original context. Thanks guys for being so understanding.

Submissions to the group are moderated, so it may take up to a day for your photograph to appear in the group. 100 years old
For the real early photography. Images posted here should be from before 1911 or, in other words, at least 100 years old!
Mind you, this pool is NOT about photo restauration, posting images both before and after for instance or volunteering service in that direction. We like the originals, pure and simple. For restauration we refer you to Uncle Jerry's: www.flickr.com/groups/90604013@N00/
Photographs from other sites, books, etc. are not allowed and will be removed, and so will be mass produced postcards and mass produced photos and stereoscopic photos.
150 Years Old
A group for photographs taken at least 150 years ago!
On 29 June 2009 the photograph below will be exactly 150 years old. To celebrate this, and the diverse and fascinating range of old images to be found on Flickr, I have created the 150 Years Old group.
Edmund Barron Hartley, b. 6 May 1847, taken aged 12, 29 June 1859. Awarded VC 5 June 1879
Group rules
Photographs in this group must have been taken in 1859 or earlier, and that there must be pretty good evidence to support this, if not an absolute date.
Note that this group is not for pictures taken more recently of locations, cameras etc that are over 150 years old.
50 MILLION MISSING: A CAMPAIGN AGAINST INDIA'S FEMALE GENOCIDE
This is a Campaign to increase International awareness about the millions of women that have been eliminated from India's population. To be on our mailing list please send your name and email to 50millionmissing@gmail.com
Due to a traditional preference for sons, daughters are regularly dispensed with through selective abortions and the practice of infanticide. The medical journal Lancet recently announced that about a 1000,000 female fetuses are aborted in India each year. In the state of Kerala, India's most literate state, it is estimated that about 25000 new born infant girls are annually killed. The figures of female infanticide in Bihar are far worse. There, mid-wives admit to being paid to kill at least half of all baby girls they birth. It is also estimated that at least 25000 women are annually murdered by their in-laws and husbands, after being subject to extended physical and mental torture for reasons of dowry.
This is India's silent genocide, and it is time for it to STOP.
This website was initially started with idea that each of the 50 million "missing" women be represented by a photograph of Indian women or girls engaged in various activities of life. However, since this is an awareness campaign, we encourage anyone who visits this site and supports our cause to please join as member, even if you submit no photos. Each membership strengthens our cause.
We of course welcome your comments and question in the discussion section.
Submitting your photos: Because of the culturally specific nature of the issue, we only accept photos that have Indian women or girls as their main subject, of any age, and community represented as portraits or shown as engaged in various activities -- which is life. It would help very much if there is a small personal commentary with the photo about the girl or woman, so we can reverse the process of dehumanizing Indian women.
Please also feel free to submit your posters, songs and videos inspired by our campaign.
"Seen At": If you are browsing through the stream, please use the code provided (below) for 'SEEN AT 50 MILLION MISSING,' for photos you view, so we can have an idea of the frequency of viewership on this stream.
if you comment a pic you should add:
+ seen in the 50 Million Missing: An International Campaign About India's 50 Million Eliminated Women. +If you see a good photo you would like to have in the group you can paste this in as a comment:
We'd love to have this photo in our group "50 MILLION MISSING: An International Campaign About India's 50 million eliminated women".Giving Awards: Use the URL code (below) you can copy and paste onto pictures you think deserve recognition for highlighting the goals of this group. Inviting Photos:Use the invite code (below) you can copy and post onto pictures that you want to invite to this pool. Inviting New Members: We encourage members to use the "bulk -invite" code of this group to invite their friends and contacts to join the campaign. This is the group invite link: www.flickr.com/groups_invite_pre.gne?id=89483374@N00 At some point in this campaign, we plan to collectively either put out a book and/or start a touring exhibition of photos and commentaries featured in this group -- and so bring this matter to head.

Abandoned Relatives
There's an antique store in Austin, Texas where they have huge bins full of photos from complete strangers' families. There's no telling why these photos end up in antique stores, but my bet is the story is probably a sad one. The term "Abandoned Relatives" was coined by a friend of a friend. Abandoned by whom? A million novels could launch from that question. I feel it my duty to adopt some of these people from time to time. Frequently, I use them to start writing stories or as models for drawings. Sometimes I just ponder the subjects. My only rules are that I must not be related to the person, I must have a strong feeling for the person or people in the photo, or their situation or time period, and that there must be no duplicates in the jumble of photos. My only regret is that so many are left behind.
Aesthetics of Failure
Brakdoewn, slippgae, entrpy, accidetn, gl!tczhes, failures in sound, image, concept, utopian and dystopian experiments
All About Leaves
I LOVE leaves. So, what better than to make a group that focuses on leaves? Green, Red, Yellow, Brown, Dead, and Crispy, if you take a picture of it, you just might get an invite! Please NO flowers (there's lots of groups for flowers) and grass is iffy (even though I might make an exception for really great blades of grass). So get to taking leaf pics, I want this group to be a success!
Thanks!

Antique Animals
Animals captured on film or by illustration from the 1980's or earlier. Vintage inspired photos or illustrations are accepted as well. From exotic to domestic, all are welcome!
Antique Cars. (Pre 1940 & No Hot Rods or Customs)
What we are looking for here are pictures of Antique And Classic Cars (and trucks or commercial vehicles) or portions of them. We would also like to see related parts and literature if the latter if it includes an illustration of a qualifying vehicle. Must have been built before 1940. No Hot Rods or heavily customized vehicles please. They don\'t have to be show cars, so if you come across an interesting vehicle in as found condition, it will be welcome. Do try to identify the year and make of the vehicle in the photo. Please include the tag "Antique Car" "Antique Truck" or something similar in your tags.
Antique Christmas: 1830-1945
This is a place to post your images of Christmas decorations, illustrations, cards, photos, and so on that are from any time PRE-1945 (or are modern, but have an "antique Christmas" look). Remember, we still have the Vintage Christmas group in which to post stuff 1945-1965. I'm starting this because there are so many pretty images I've had to delete from the Vintage Christmas group. I will be deleting anything that is modern "country Christmas".
Antique Photographs
This is a group for wierd old -- OLD antique photographs. I love to see the clothing and faces of people long, long ago.
Antique Photographs of Nature
Nature has changed over the course of the years...from pollution, development, global warming and more. This site is a place to post pictures of nature as it used to be. As used in this group, antique means photographs which are at least 50 years old....anything before 1958, at this point in time.

Astronomy Photographer of the Year
This group runs alongside the Royal Observatory, Greenwich’s annual photography competition, Astronomy Photographer of the Year. Everyone who joins the group can then enter their best five pictures into the competition. It’s free and easy, and there are some great prizes up for grabs. All the photos in the group will also be displayed in an exhibition at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. We’ve teamed up with Astrometry.net too. They have built a robot that will be going through photos in the group, adding astronomical information as machine tags and annotations. We’ve called these tags astrotags and we hope they’ll enable us to build a photo-collage of your space pictures. Of course, it would be great if others did cool stuff with astrotags too!
Atrocious Apostrophe's
From Dave Barry's "Tips for Writer's":
Dear Mister Language Person: What is the purpose of the apostrophe? Answer: The apostrophe is used mainly in hand-lettered small business signs to alert the reader than an "S" is coming up at the end of a word, as in: WE DO NOT EXCEPT PERSONAL CHECK'S, or: NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ITEM'S.This group documents prominently-placed and egregious punctuation mistakes. Bonus points (redeemable for nothing at all) are awarded for finding examples with unintended, hilarious meanings. See also '"Quotation Mark" Abuse'.

Avant-Garden
If you are in your element with soil under your nails and paint over your clothes, come wander through the Avant-Garden, where art-in-nature and nature-in-art flourish.
Art-in-nature:
Art made for the garden, art photographed in the garden.
Nature-in-art:
Any art medium with the garden as its subject or theme.
Before digging in, kindly get a handle on WHAT to plant and HOW to plant.
If you bump into the garden troll, don't panic. Just carry a bit of troll kibble and
try to work two things into each image: something green-growing, something man-made.
If you're an artist, just toss him a landscape, a botanical, a nice organic abstract, and you'll have
him eating out of the palm of your garden glove.
Friendly conversation in this garden is nurtured and fertilized liberally.

Picture's that are found or given to you, but one's you have not personally taken yourself.
BBC Gardeners' World
Welcome to the Gardeners’ World Flickr group. We’ve set up this group so that you can share images of your garden. Whether you’ve got a small urban courtyard, an allotment, a flower meadow or just abundant window boxes, we’d love to see photographs of them as the sun rises or as it moves into the late afternoon. We'd also love to see your cosmos images so add them to the group too. We hope to feature some of your photos on Gardeners’ World on BBC Two later in the year, so please make sure that you’ve read our terms and conditions before adding your photos to the group: For more information about Gardeners' World, visit the Gardeners' World website.

There are a lot of groups where you can display your pictures. We would like to make this one a friendly group, where you do more than:
1. display a picture and then run
2. get tired in the attempt of respecting the number of comments that you have to post until adding your picture to the pool
So what we would really want is to make this:
1. A friendly place in which any comment is welcomed ( you are asked to post Two pictures per day and at least one comment for any one of previous five pictures in the pool No Limit to the number of Comments. You can Comment on all pictures you like in the pool by giving Award.
2. A place where you can admire beautiful captures and enjoy the beauty in the small things
3. Have the chance of making a friend.
4. Anything against the definition of "Beautiful" will be removed
5. Not be offended. Photos should be appropriate for all viewers of all ages. No nudity!
6. Nude pictures are removed and Members would be BANNED after Warning!!!

Beside the Seaside
The Beside the Seaside group has been created to accompany Beside the Seaside: snapshots of British coastal life, 1880–1950, an exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London. It runs from 17 September 2008 – 5 April 2009 and admission is free so do pop along. One other thing: we'd like to show your seaside photographs on the Beside the Seaside group map so we'd really appreciate it if you could: • tag each photograph with a place name, e.g. 'Scarborough' • geotag (add your photos to a map) on Flickr

blurfection
blurfection The un-f64 Club. Motion, out of focus, bokeh. Anything blurry, really. Keep'n it loose and free. Post your blurry photos here, please. Be mindful of others, but other than that, no rules. IMPORTANT! By adding your pictures to this group you are giving me permission to post them on the blurfection blog.
Boats
Photographs of boats and boat related items (such as lifebelts, moorings, etc).
When you post photos please have a look at what the others already sent. It's NOT a MUST but DON'T forget why we join groups.

bokeh
Hey! Don't keep on reposting your picture if we don't put it in! Use the appeals thread!
~~~~~Please don't waste our time posting stuff with some sort of superimposed bokeh texture thingy..~~~~~~
For all those who love shots with shallow depth-of-field and beautiful bokeh
Self-moderation is the key. It's obvious that even with the restriction to one pic per day some people are just posting any old stuff from their streams into as many groups as possible. If we suspect you're guilty of this, you're gone. We want people to actually want their stuff to appear in the group and to choose their pictures with care. The continuing fact that so far nobody has even noticed they have been removed from the group shows we're deleting the right people.
Post pictures where you have made creative use of the stuff that's in the bokeh
Limited depth of field throws up a kind of texture in the blur if it is extreme enough. This is what we are looking for in your photographs. Ideally this blur should be quite profound and throw up visual artefacts from the shape of the lens aperture. Some desire polygonal or circular hard or soft shapes while others prefer a smooth, creamy texture.
This is what we want to see, not a good pic with no bokeh. There are loads of groups to do that in. Just because it's a good pic doesn't mean it'll stay or even get to the pool - it has to be a picture using bokeh
to enhance or make the picture work.
Bokeh is not just about limited depth of field. Just because your picture has limited depth of field does not mean you should post it here. Ask yourself this question, " Does the blur in my picture look gorgeous or is it just blur?" Sometimes the blur is just very slight; just enough to make your subject stand out. This isn't really what we are looking for.
To excel in the group you really should be trying to use the blur to creatively enhance your shot rather than finding it there as an accident and instantly thinking it is creatively excellent by default. Of course, there are always happy accidents...
Motion blur or blur due to panning is not bokeh.
Lens flare is not bokeh.
Please don't post things where the whole image is blurred.
Pictures that really caught our eye.
If your picture does not make it to the pool it does not mean it's a bad picture so please do not be offended. We're putting a bit of effort into making this a specialist group.
New elite group! (Admins/moderators go here for invite code)
Bokeh Masterpieces is a purely admin/moderator invite only group. Feel free to visit it as it grows.
If you're not sure what sort of picture really floats our boat then visit the group.
It's still relatively new so be patient with it while it grows. If you get an invite it's a high accolade and not just given out patronisingly for fun to swell the group - the emphasis is definitely quality over quantity. Please seriously consider joining and adding your picture if invited so it's there for people to view.
If you're wondering how to get an invitation, the first step is to post it in the bokeh pool. If we don't spot your picture while moderating then put it in the requests thread and see what happens.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This group now has a sister group. Total BOKEH is exactly the group for all those of you who keep posting pictures that are just totally and utterly blurred with no sharp and defined subject. You seem to like these pictures for some reason and keep posting them so you think others might also like them. Who knows! people might just love them and think of them as Pure Bokeh unhindered and pure in form without any annoying attempt to have a clear subject - it might even be considered an art form and not just dialling your camera all the way to near focus and pointing it at some lights. So here's somewhere to post them. Contact Mike_Foster if you want to admin and promote this group because this stuff excites you. Make it a success and prove me wrong.
Oh, and of course the regular stuff like NO nudity and such. We're trying to keep this a family atmosphere for Bebe.
Do not change the time on your photo to bump it back to the front of the pool ~ it will be deleted.
Do not add your picture to the pool and then delete it and add it again later to get more views ~ it will be deleted.
There is a 2 photo limit.
Last important note: Please don't spam the pool or I will have to call on Daffy Duck. If he catch you breaking any of the rules above, he will BAN you from the group without notice.
Have FUN!
Bokeh: Smooth & Silky
Rediscovering a small moment in photography called “Bokeh”.
There are so many photographs with Bokeh hidden in our everyday lifes.
But we don’t recognize them.
and even when we do recognize them, we tend to unconsciously reset our
minds and forget what we’ve seen.
But we believe that Bokeh is what makes our photographs so
interesting, so rich.
That’s why we want to reconstitute the everyday by collecting and
reshaping Bokeh into something that’s easy to understand.
We’d like the people who’ve come upon Bokeh: Smooth & Silky to feel these
small “Bokeh moments” intuitively.
That’s our job.
What, we think, you should know
Commenting: You're encouraged(but not required) to comment on other photographs in the pool. Our group link: (from Bokeh S&S)
Posting: 3 posts by the same person is the maximum allowed.
Tagging: Please tag your submissions "bokeh".
1/5 Policy: We'll be removing any images that contain an insignificant amount(less than 20% of total area) of OOF background/foreground. This group was intended to display bokeh photography, therefore bokeh must an important part of your image.
Born in the eighteenth century
This group is devoted to the generation born at the end of the eighteenth century, which is the oldest generation portrayed on photographic images. Famous contemporaries were, for example, Honoré de Balzac (born 1799), Franz Schubert (born 1797), Gioachino Rossini (born 1792), Samuel Morse (born 1791), Carl Maria von Weber (born 1786), Niccolò Paganini (born 1782), and, last not least, Louis Daguerre (born 1787). Considering this fact, it is always amazing to see photos of persons born in this era. To qualify for this group, persons should be born 1800 or earlier, and, in general, they have to be identified. The pool of this group is for original photos only (daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, CDVs, cabinet cards, etc), not for reprints of old photos, paintings or photos of artwork.
Botanical Garden
Colorfull and sunny pictures from Botanical Gardens in the world. Group created by André Gardenberg® _______________________ Fotos coloridas e ensolaradas de Jardins Botânicos pelo mundo. Grupo criado por André Gardenberg®
Botanical Morphology and Anatomy
A group for illustrative examples of any plant morphological or anatomical features, from microscopic to macroscopic (not just pretty flower photos). Tag and describe your photos with botanical terms, plant group, Latin names, etc. to help others find specific features. Notes on photos are highly encouraged, as are well-tagged and described photos. Photos without tags, relevant titles, or subjects will be removed. All plant groups are allowed: flowering plants, conifers, mosses, lichens, algae (incl. plankton), ferns, clubmosses, cycads, etc. No fungi - those are not plants and there are other groups for them. IMPORTANT NOTE - by posting your photos to this group, you will allow others to tag and put notes on them related to botanical anatomy and morphology. If you don't like this, then don't add your photos. See ya!
Britain's Buildings in Pictures
This group was inspired by BBC series 'How We Built Britain' and 'Britain in Pictures' which featured Britain’s buildings past, present and future. The group is no longer associated with the BBC and is Administered and Moderated by members of the group.
You may post one photograph everyday, however they must be photographs of buildings in Britain. Ferris wheels are not acceptable as buildings, not even the London Eye. Garden sheds and Beach huts will also be removed. We are lucky in the UK, we have lots of buildings that we can photograph, without having to nip out into the back garden to take a shot of your shed. Other photographs may be removed at the discretion of those moderating the group. We look forward to you showing us how Britain's Buildings look
British Royal Families
It's about the Royal Families of the British Isles, from Dark Ages up now: so...everything (Books, Pictures, monuments, palaces, places...) about the Normans, Platangenets, Yorks and Lancasters, Tudors, Stewarts, Hanovers, Saxe - Coburg and Gothas, Windsor, Bruces, Balliols, Ancient kings of Man...and not only the Sovereignss but Princes and Princessesas well.....
Cabinet Cards
Duh, Cabinet Cards: "A photographic print measuring 4" by 5 1/2" attached to a cardboard mount 4 1/4" by 6 1/2". Popularized by Windsor & Bridge (Britain). This definition is from "Collector\'s Guide to Early Photographs" by O. Henry Mace. Mr. Mace adds that the cabinet card was introduced in 1863, peaked in the years 1870 to 1900, and begin to wane in 1905. The cards were last made in the 1920\'s. No other size qualifies as a cabinet card. Other sizes have different names: "Boudoir" and "Imperial" are two that I am aware of. If a card appears to be a genuine cabinet card, but has been cut down or damaged, it still qualifies. Cards were often cut to fit in albums. CDVs are NOT cabinet cards. CDVs measure 2 1/2"by 3 1/2" and are mounted on 1/2" by 4" stock. Start your own CDV group if you like those usually worthless little boogers (lighten up; it's a joke). Here is the definition from The Oxford Companion to the Photograph: "format introduced in 1866 as the craze for the carte de viste was slackening, although it was not until the 1890s that cabinet prints outnumbered cartes. The size of the print (predominately albumen, sometimes carbon) was usually c. 102 x 140 mm (4 x 5 1/2 in), and was pasted on a piece of card c. 114 x 165 mm (4 1/2 x 6 1/2 in). As with the carte, the studio's name often appeared on the bottom front edge of the card, or on the back, sometimes with a negative number. The style of text and design often gives clues for dating. The format rapidly became internationally accepted, albums were produced to fit it, and countless millions of images were created, mostly portraits. It continued into the 1900s." I'm not going to insist on the rectangular nature of the image itself, but I personally believe that oval or round-shaped images are not cabinet photos, merely because they are mounted on cabinet stock. I will continue to look for a definitive definition.
Cabinet Portraits, CDV, photos on cardboard
Post Cabinet Portraits, Carte-de-Viste, or any other vintage photos mounted on cardboard. This group is moderated via RSS. Anything submitted that is not obviously on cardboard or cardstock of some kind stands the chance of being removed. Please do not dump any and all old photos in here, make sure they fit the group description and have a look in the pool to see what others are adding.
Camerapedia
Group for photos of cameras and camera lenses that can be used in the Camerapedia website, a non-commercial wiki encyclopedia about cameras. If you add an image to this group it is with the understanding that it may be used or referenced from Camerapedia.
For detailed rules and a guide on how to add the images into the encyclopedia, please read Camerapedia's help page on adding images.
Quick summary of the rules:
- You may only upload images that you have taken, or images that you are explicitly allowed to use, or documents in public domain.
- To upload pictures taken by somebody else, you must have the permission from the copyright owner and you must make this clear in the image description or via an unobtrusive watermark. Do not grab photographs from other sites and upload them here without the explicit consent of their owners.
- To upload advertisements or magazine articles, you must take care of the copyright issues.
- Use of textual or other identifying marks on the images is discouraged, unless it is really unobtrusive.
- Individual images are preferred over mosaics because they give more layout freedom for Camerapedia pages.
If you don't follow the rules, your images will be removed without notice.
Thanks! :)
Submit any photo taken on the sly, without the subject's knowledge, especially if it captures a compromising or embarassing moment - your husband dancing in his underwear...the kids stealing cookies from the jar...your boss walking into a porn store. Be it funny or suspicious, post it here. Try not to include the "normal," every day scene. Make it a winner! And no lewd, crude, or nude shots please! Also, limit your serial posting. Don't post more than two or three at a time unless absolutely necessary to convey a message. And PLEASE NOTE, any photo not fitting the theme of this group will be deleted. Thank you.
Cathedral Photography
For those who appreciate the beautiful architecture of Cathedrals, new and old!
Catholic Cathedrals
Photos of Catholic (Western and Eastern) cathedrals from all over the world. Remember that a cathedral is the bishop's church in a Diocese, so be sure that the photo is actually a cathedral and not just a very large church. Photos must have the name of the church and what diocese it is in. Any photos that do not meet these requirements will be erased.
CHILDREN'S PORTRAITS
If you have no public photos you will need to either add Admin (CARF / L8o) as a contact, or turn public viewing on for your account. If admin cannot see your content you will instantly be removed from this group. If you are removed from the group and, subsequently, wish to return after complying with the above request, flickr mail me with your explanation. Thanks in advance for keeping this group family-friendly clean and fun. :`D
As children who spread both joy and sorrow constantly surround me in my daily work, innocent of their very existence, I realize how meaningful a child’s expression can be to most of us.
A miserable day can be turned into a delightful one, a sad moment into a happy one. A stressful day can be turned into a relaxing one and a tense moment into a relieving one.
All thanks to a few simple words or actions, or just the innocent expressions on the faces of our children. Children are the fuel of life, without them there is no future. A society who does not take care of its children will be left in a state of suffering, a state of social decay, which can only be reversed the moment we start taking care of our future.
For generations, children have been the targets of both good and evil, as they still are today. Since the discovery of the camera they have also been the popular targets of our lenses, unfortunately also for more dubious purposes. With the sudden explosion of the Internet we are witnessing one of the most shocking forms for child abuse caused by that very same instrument that brings so much joy to the Flickr Community.
For most of us the camera is a blessing and for most of us, so are the innocent children we choose to photograph.
So together, let’s strengthen the good reputation of our cameras by showing the world our fabulous CHILDREN'S PORTRAITS, formal or informal, singular or group. That is the nature of this group, where I hope you will all come share a selection of the incredible faces that make up our global village and who will eventually become the future citizens of this wonderful planet so Forsaken by Society
Look forward to this welcoming therapy, after all, it’s gratis so start posting! There are no set limits to how many children you choose to post as long as they are within the category.
Following suggestions arising on one of our threads, I thought it wise to adopt awfulsara’s observations when defining CHILDREN'S PORTRAITS for this group. As you will notice when browsing Sara’s photostream, she is a most competent portrait photographer and therefore I appreciate her suggestions.
Sara says:
Photographs added to the group pool must feature children (obviously) and be recognizable. What does that mean? For example, any image including a face is clearly recognizable, but so is a view from behind. Creative compositions, perspectives, and crops are encouraged, but detail shots of areas other than the face are not, unless they are included as part of a diptych or triptych that also shows identifying features of the little one.
We have now passed an astounding 23.000 members in this group and have more than 275.000 images in the CHILDREN'S PORTRAITS photostream. Hopefully you are all aware of our lovely Blog showcasing some of the images hidden away deep down there in that maze of thumbnails in our pool.
Please bookmark the Blog, UNITED CHILDREN OF THE WORLD and enjoy. There are so many wonderful images to choose from so I shall be adding new photos from our stream for your appraisal and as my time permits.
With such a diversity of photos in this group, many of you become aware of the different social realities of children around the world. Many wish to do something to help those less fortunate and Marília (Mylens) is one such person who has done something to help the street and other children at risk in our programme in Brazil. Please take your time to visit her Xmas Campaign group "Reaching for a Star - 2008", now in its fourth edition and offering important support to the Children At Risk Foundation's work with street and other children at risk in Brazil:
See this recent video presentation of CARF's work and join the group to offer your valued support for this important project. Click on the clown below:
Thanks for making our group such a great place to visit.
NB! If you wish to post other categories of children's pictures, please join an alternative group such as KIDPIX - WORLD KIDDIES or LITTLE PEOPLE.
To achieve our objectives we will be deleting images that seem more suitable for these groups, so don’t be surprised or angry if you suddenly disappear. Sorry!
Church Exteriors
This group is for images of church exteriors. The church or parts of the church should dominate the image. From a small section of a wall to the whole building. Examples of what might make a picture: the church or parts of the church are taken at different angles. an unusual combination of doors and windows. a combination of different building materials. details such as gargoyles, gutters, church doors, etc. Church photos can also be sent to the Churches group. At this group the predominant focal point of the picture should be a church and photos should always show a significant proportion of the whole building. =========================================================== Other groups you may be interested in: Church Interiors Church Furnishings Church Ruins =================================================== The pool should show straightforward photography so no negatives, heavy manipulations, light experiments, mosaics, montages, collages, computer graphics, elaborate or decorative borders (borderless preferred), large titles (no titles preferred) or drawings/paintings. Images that don't fit the guidelines will be removed from the pool. If one of your images has disappeared you may find the explanation in the group description above. If you don't understand why your image has been removed please contact one of the admins by Flickr e-mail. ===================================================
Church Ruins
The group for church and chapel ruins and this can include ruined abbeys, priories, monasteries and friaries. In the case of ruined monastic buildings try to feature the church part of the site as much as you can but rest assured admin interpretation on this issue will be quite liberal. If only the gatehouse survived then that is acceptable! Derelict churches which still have a roof in place may also be treated as 'ruined' for the purposes of this group. A vandalised church [it happens] which is still in regular use probably does not qualify but the admin will take those on a case-by-case basis. Let's hope we do not see too many! Buildings must be from all branches of the Christian tradtition [Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Coptic, etc] but can include buildings which have changed from churches to mosques or from mosques to churches. No Graeco/Roman temples, Egyptology or prehistoric ruins unless the caption clearly states the building was used as a church during the Christian era. If in doubt send Flickr mail to group admin for advice and assistance. ******************************************************************* Other groups you may be interested in: Church Exteriors Church Interiors Church Furnishings =================================================== The pool should show straightforward photography so no negatives, heavy manipulations, light experiments, mosaics, montages, collages, computer graphics, elaborate or decorative borders (borderless preferred), large titles (no titles preferred) or drawings/paintings. Churches
View our Gallery of "Church of the Week" winners! RULES (Please read before posting) 1. This group is for photos that feature church buildings, or any building used for communal worship. The focus of the group is architectural rather than religious, so if your photo doesn't "look" like a church, it may be a tough sell. 2. Church photos should show a significant proportion of the whole building. The group is not a showcase for individual details. (plaques, gargoyles, roofs, windows, gates or statuary, etc). It can be an interior or exterior view but should show the complete structure as much as possible. 3. Please tell us the name of the church and where it is. This is not a binding rule, but is of great interest to the Church Collecter and her team of Administrators. Use of Flickr's "map" feature is strongly encouraged. Q: What if my picture was deleted? A: This is common. Don't worry. We didn't delete the picture, we just removed it from this group. There are several other church-related groups that you can consider for photos that don't meet the criteria.
Cloudporn
Clouds are all fine and good, but occassionally you happen across something spectacular. This is a moderated pool. The primary focus of shots posted must be of unbelievable clouds. Please don't post just any old shot that happens to contain clouds. That is not what this pool is for and your post will get deleted.
Cymru Ni - Our Wales
(SAESNEG/ENGLISH) Our Wales The Our Wales group is seeking historical images of, from and by the communities of Wales. Our Wales is a collaborative, online service that forms part of the larger Community Archives Wales project. Contribute your Flickr images to this group and make them a part of the nation’s visual record. Community Archives Wales (CAW) is a communities@one funded project managed by Culturenet Cymru within the National Library of Wales. Guidelines for giving titles and tagging The following are guidelines and not hard and fast rules, we welcome all images from 'Our Wales'. But if you have the time to do the following then please do. You can find out more about how to write good tags and titles in this post www.flickr.com/groups/cymru-wales/discuss/72157605970842616/ Please tag and title the images you add to this group as these become searchable fields in Our Wales. Please include the following information: subject, event, location, geographical feature, geographical location, date and photographer (if not your image). To keep multiple words as one tag, use quotation marks, for example: “Millennium Stadium” rather than Millenniumstadium If you would like to see your Flickr images in the CAW online resources: Images will be showing on the www.ourwales.org.uk (CAW) site soon, currently that site contains only images from the community groups. Once the flickr images are included on the site, we will inform people by posting a message in the discussion area. You will then be able to use the search facility to search photos from both the community groups and the Flickr group together. Creative Commons Licenses: While this is not a condition for contributing to this group, we suggest you consider licensing your images with a Creative Commons like “Attribution-NonCommercial”. Our Wales selects Creative Commons licensed images when producing audio visual presentations and exhibitions for national events and festivals, e.g. the National Eisteddfod of Wales or the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show. Because of the amount of work involved in rights clearing, it is not feasible to use "all rights reserved" images for audio visual exhibition and presentation purposes. You can find further details about the six Creative Commons licenses on the Flickr Creative Commons page. Language Policy: Our Wales is a bilingual (Welsh and English) resource. All content produced by CAW for the group will be bilingual. Titles, descriptions and tags for images can be in either Welsh or English, but preferably in both languages. Potential acquisition: To have your images considered for acquisition by Culturenet Cymru projects, which include Community Archives Wales, Gathering the Jewels, Glaniad and Their Past Your Future, you will need to: - include detailed titles, descriptions and tags - upload high resolution images e.g. 2500 x 1900 pixels - allocate Creative Commons licenses - include alternative contact details or check Flickr mail regularly The flickr images acquired by Culturenet Cymru will be preserved in The National Library of Wales’s digital archive for perpetuity. Daguerreotypes
This group is dedicated to the past and present art of the daguerreotype. Please do not post photographs that are processed in Photoshop to look like daguerreotypes. Past Developed by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce and Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre, the daguerreotype was presented to the public in 1839 as the first commercially viable photographic process. The daguerreotype quickly gained popularity and photographic studios were established across Europe and the United States. This popularity was relatively short lived however and by 1860 the daguerreotype process was replaced by safer, easier, and less expensive processes. Although brief in existence, the impact of the daguerreotype was immense. It is the process that formed the basis for the art of photography. Present The art of the daguerreotype was abandoned for nearly 100 years and only recently have photographers dared to attempt the process again. Most of the old methods were lost and only general descriptions of the process have survived. Much trial and error has gone into developing new methods to reproduce daguerreotypes with the same stunning quality as those created in the mid nineteenth century. Decisive Moment
1 photo per week allowed..
Your photo should be in the style of Henri Cartier-Bresson:
A common consensus is the photo should depict People in Public Places. This is not limited to the streets (or people) or even restricted to outdoors. Indoor venues can be Bars, Cafes, Malls, Shops, in some cases churches.. etc.
There should be a Background that contributes to the overall composition. In most cases this Background is in focus. There are exceptions. A photo taken in dim light may have a background blurred but still contributing to the overall composition. A photo taken with a shallow DOF to emphasize a central character may essentially be considered a street portrait and could be deleted. A really great photo will get in.
Animals: There are excellent street shots that contain no people but have an animal: Dog, Pigeon, Cat etc that supplies the necessary dynamic. In these shots, the animal should be part of an overall interesting composition in which the Background is an important element. The Background should show a human presence like buildings, dwellings etc. The lack of people in the shot makes it more important to show a human presence because HCB, above all else, depicted human impact on the world. An animal in the woods or on the beach is something foreign to his vision. Nature photography will be deleted.
HCB and Portraits: If you wish to post a portrait in the style of HCB: please do so. You should study his portraits first... The portrait should almost always have a BG in focus and appear casual (not stiffly or clumsily posed). The person should be in context with the Background to create an interesting tableau, a composition more interesting and more complex than a mere portrait or snapshot. The Background on these shots as with animal shots is going to be carefully curated by the administrator. Most street portraits will be deleted.
Street Photography: I believe the entire genre of Street Photography owes much to HCB. This site is not restricted to "Life in the Streets" or purely public places... This site is about a Body of Work. Bresson has been described as one of the top five Artist of the 20th Century. If you are reading this and at all familiar with his work.. then you hold him in high esteem.
I have never seen this statement but I would say: "The photography of Henri Cartier-Bresson depicts and documents a human presence. He depicts our lives, our strife, our buildings, our fashions, our impact on the planet we live on. He depicts common laborers in their daily life as well as the wealthy and talented."
The Decisive Moment... I'll not define it. Your photo should be a composition in which each element is in balance, in context and an essential part of a scene. HCB forbade anyone from cropping his photos. You may crop, rotate and photoshop your image before posting but the photo you submit should be a balanced, thoughtful, realistic scene.
Photorealism: HCB did not have photoshop. If you clone out a power line, a tree branch etc... That is OK. If you paste a large graphic into an otherwise dull photo, that is not in the spirit of this pool. If the Admin suspects this, you may be deleted.
HDR: if you use HDR to the point the image is unrealistic, plastic or phony looking, it should be deleted. This is the 21st Century. I allow color photography and minor editing. I encourage you to depict life as it is today, the gothic fashions and wild hairdos will be interesting to us all down the road. If your image departs from being a realistic photo and looks more like an art experiment... There are other pools for it.
Unsuitable Photos: Cityscapes with no people, Nature Photography, flower studies, studio portraits, sports action shots, family snapshots, stiffly posed images, images with no apparent background quality (includes street portraits), intentionally blurred backgrounds, abstracts, overly blurred images, avant gard experimental art photography... and more. Deliberate jumps, skateboard and BMX Bicycle shots generally belong in another pool.
HCB took a great shot of a spectator at Ascot, a sporting event. At the Cornoation Parade for George VI he took shots in the crowd, not the parade. My point is: You can find Decisive Moments at and around a sporting event, a birthday party, a family reunion. There is an extra burden placed on you to surpass the label of Snapshot.
Poor Quality: If your shot is in the spirit of these rules, it will not be judged or deleted by me for being a poor or boring image.
This group is for photos of economically used plants, such as vegetables, fruits, spices, herbs, medicinal plants, and plants used for oils, fibers, wood, or any other ethnobotanical use. Photos of their cultivation and products are welcome. This group is not for cooked food - there are so many Flickr groups that already cover that. Please tag your photos with common and Latin name (if you know it), use, and geographic region. BY adding your photos to this group you will let others help you tag your own photos, so the pool becomes searchable by teachers, students, and everybody else. Without plants there would be no life on earth and no human civilizations - welcome to the pool!
Empty Seats
Seats. Chairs. Benches. Empty. In rows, alone, or in groups. I heartily encourage you to look at this group using Flickr's slideshow function. It's a lovely way to enter the world of a photographer's personality. And this is turning into a gorgeous, artistic, almost painterly collection of photos! Please enter only photos that contain empty seats, etc. We all love people, but this group is devoted to that somewhat melancholy image of something designed for the human form, but lacking it entirely. So - rule #1: Seats, benches, chairs only. No people. Thanks!
England's East Coast
Images of the eastern coast of England from the Scottish borders to North Foreland in Kent. Any photos from south of North Foreland including Broadstairs and Ramsgate belong in another group. The BBC TV series 'Coast' defined the Thames as far as Teddington Lock as 'coast' because the Thames is tidal to this point. This group only goes as far as HMS Belfast and Tower Bridge - the highest point that a big ship can now reach. Therefore images of Tilbury, Grays, Maritime Greenwich, Gravesend and the Thames Barrier are most welcome. Elsewhere images of all major tidal estuaries on England's East Coast are welcome - the Humber, the Tyne, the Wash, King's Lynn etc. The admin is liberal about defining what is 'coast' so anything taken off shore or up to two or three miles inland is quite OK. No-one will be shot for breaking this guideline. If in doubt, please ask the admin for clarification. England's Heritage
Anything related to England's Heritage. For the time being I will use a slightly editted form of the Wikipedia definition of heritage: Heritage refers to something which is inherited from one's ancestors. It has several different senses, including: - Cultural heritage, a nation's historic monuments, museum collections, etc. - Natural heritage, a nation's fauna and flora, natural resources, and landscape - Tradition, customs and practices inherited from ancestors - Birthright, something inherited due to the place, time, or circumstances of someone's birth I'd like to try to make this more of a celebration of England's heritage - so too many pictures of urban decay and wheely bins won't go down too well! However, things like run down rows of terraced houses and derelict factories are definitely part of our heritage - so such things aren't excluded. Very modern / recent things are probably not appropriate - we'll only know whether or not they have become part of England's heritage at some point in the future. I'd be interested in other people's view on the subject of what should be included - please feel free to post in the group discussions. Lots of pictures of the same thing are probably not good - pick the best and just post that!
Experience The In Between
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/ppcinteractive/4209251930/] 'Experience The In Between' is a new photographic web experience in development by Paramount Pictures International, to promote the upcoming release of Peter Jackson's film adaptation of Alice Sebold's best-selling novel, The Lovely Bones. The film presents the viewer with a magical and awe-inspiring landscape, known as the In Between - a unique world inhabited by Susie Salmon, the film's protagonist and narrator, following her murder. The 'Experience The In Between' site features a number of breath-taking images from the In-Between. However upon closer inspection, each one is in fact a user-generated ‘photo-mosaic’, made up of thousands of individual photos uploaded by people from all over the world, to show the memories they would hope to find in their own personal In Between. We'd like to invite you to share your personal vision of the ‘In Between’ in this Flickr group. Need inspiration? • a place where life meets death, between waking and a dream, where memories of this life bring colour to the next… • a gallery for your imaginations, decorated with the memory of friends, family, the sights and sounds you’ll never forget… • your description what you hope to find between this life and the next... We hope to feature as many of the stunning photos submitted to this group on the 'Experience The In Between' site. You can also upload photos direct to the ‘Experience The In Between' from both Flickr and Facebook. FIELD GUIDE: FLOWERING TREES of the WORLD
This group is a resource containing photos of over 900 species of trees in blossom. We build an online Identification Guide of the Flowering Trees of the world.
All submitted images should be tagged with correct scientific name of the tree.
You can view all the photos of any particular species by using our Database- hyperlink indexes. These are alphabetical lists of trees names and by clicking on the name you will see all the photos we hold of that species. They are arranged alphabetically, either by scientific (Latin) name, common name, genera name or colour of the flower. Click below to go straight to an index:
Scientific (Latin) name index
Common name index
Genera Latin name index
Genera common name index
Colour of the flower index
It is ESSENTIAL that every photo submitted is tagged with its scientific (Latin) name. Failure to do so will mean the photo will not be found when using the Hyperlink index and may result in the photo being removed from the pool.
Please TAG your flowering tree image with its:
- "SCIENTIFIC NAME"
- GENUS
- FAMILY (if you can)
- COMMON NAME (if applicable)
You can spin the globe there and open any of the photo in flickr. Really amazing.
Just so bad that some people wrongly tag their photos...
See some of 'planets' I created. They are just the screen capture.
You can click on image to see it larger, but much better to try it in www.taggalaxy.de/
Flickr 888
The Flickr 888 Postcards Packs are now available.
There more information on FlickrBlog.
-----
Given the success of last year’s event, we hope that you’ll join us in celebration of another 24 Hours of Flickr – Flickr 888 on Friday, August 8th, 2008 (8-8-8!), a most auspicious day!
How can you participate? Take a photo any time during the twenty-four hour period that’s August 8th where you are and then share it with the group. We’ll accept one (1) contribution per Flickr member into the group from noon PST Friday, August 8th until Tuesday, September 2nd, noon PST, 2008.
We’ve partnered with the cool folks at MOO to create unique Flickr 888 Postcard Packs. Those images with sufficient resolution (1795x1287 pixels) that feature “safe” content (as defined in our Community Guidelines), will be printed and sold in postcards packs this coming fall at MOO. We’re still working out the final details of how many, how much, etc., and we’ll share the full details here in the group when we’ve got our ducks in a row.
So, mark your calendars, and get ready to capture August 8th in all its glory.
Flickr API
A Flickr group for Flickr API projects. Driving awareness of the Flickr API, projects that use it and those incredible ideas that programmatically exposed systems produce. Think Google API + Amazon API + Flickr API with a bit of GMail thrown in. The developers of Flickr rightly pointed out they want to keep technical discussions directly related to the API on the mailing list. If you have photos or screenshots that illustrate your use of the API, then feel free to add them. Please be selective though - people don't necessarily want to see a dozen almost identical screenshots of your app - just one or two that show off the most interesting aspects. Please don't add non-API related photos here. Not even Kittens, Babies or Sunsets. They will be rejected.
Flickr Commons
A place for the Commons Community to share and discuss the truly awesome collections being made available in the Flickr Commons In this group: The Commons Institution List: links to Commons pages and group topics Introductions ---------------------- About the Flickr Commons (text from The Commons)
"The key goals of The Commons on Flickr are to firstly show you hidden treasures in the world's public photography archives, and secondly to show how your input and knowledge can help make these collections even richer. You're invited to help describe the photographs you discover in The Commons on Flickr, either by adding tags or leaving comments."
"The Commons was launched on January 16 2008, when we released our pilot project in partnership with The Library of Congress. Both Flickr and the Library were overwhelmed by the positive response to the project! Thank you! The program has two main objectives: 1. To increase access to publicly-held photography collections, and 2. To provide a way for the general public to contribute information and knowledge. (Then watch what happens when they do!)"The Group Pool This topic is still under discussion, but for now members are welcome to post images if they relate to the Commons. Do you have a mash-up or collage that you made from Commons' photos? Do you have a photo that helps explain an image in the Commons? Perhaps a "then and now"? If you could add a html link to the Commons image or the discussion thread they pertain to, that would be excellent. If you'd like to see some examples of how other people are linking their photos to the Commons, have a look in our many threads and check out some of the projects going on there. Please do not use the pool simply to promote unrelated images from your stream; but please do show us how you interact with the Commons. The Blog If you want to keep an overview of what's going on in The Commons, as well as some of the projects being created in this group have a look at the blog:
Flickr Hacks
Flickr Hacks is a group for geeks to discuss: Flickr Secrets & Arcana. Non-API ways to get the most out of Flickr (API stuff goes here). Greasemonkey scripts & other cool third-party tools. You know, the good stuff... NOTE: This is not a group about exploiting bugs in Flickr, violating the TOS or otherwise abusing it. We use the word "Hacks" and "Hacker" in it's original, nobler sense. If you seek to inflict pain & misery, go elsewhere! There's a directory of Flickr Greasemonkey Hacks at Userscripts.org See also the Flickr! Pipes group for all the details on the application of Yahoo! Pipes to Flickr. N.B If you have a problem with a particular "hack" or have a question, please use the group's search function before starting a new thread, as your question has quite probably been asked, and answered before.
Flickr Pipes
Flickr Pipes is a group to share and discuss Yahoo! Pipes that extend Flickr's functionality. WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?
We are showcasing the best vintage photos (colour/B&W) from before 1970 that combine quality and originality. Every picture tells a story.
Not just any old photo! Please be aware that this group is about photos that convey feeling, emotion or meaning. What we don't like are the static photos of subjects posing. There are numerous other groups for such photos. We want that one SPECIAL photo.
PLEASE NOTE: do not upload photos that have not received an invite. Photos uploaded to the pool will first appear in an approval queue. Only if they have an invite, will they appear in the pool. Photos without an invite will be removed without explanation. Thanks for your consideration.
I RECEIVED AN INVITE. NOW WHAT?
If you have received an invite in your pictures comments, you can join us WITH A LINK TO YOUR AWARDED PHOTO in the request, please. When your membership has been approved, please tag your photo "topvintage" and upload it to the pool.
CAN I UPLOAD WHAT I WANT?
Well, in addition to the invite, there must be a personal relation between you and the posted photo. You do not need to be the photographer, but not only must you have the rights to the photo, but a narrative as well. Keep these criteria in mind when inviting photos by other Flickrites!
By the way, 5 photos per day max!
DO I NEED TO COMMENT ON OTHER PHOTOS IN THE POOL
Sharing is commenting, we feel. So yes, please, take the trouble (or rather: the pleasure) to look at the other photos and comment 2, after each photo posted (using the code that you will find below). Please do it right away!
CAN I INVITE OTHER PHOTOS?
As a member you are encouraged to scout for quality vintage photos on Flickr and invite them if the meet the criteria (see also the rules). Use the code that you will find below. Please, no more than 5 invites per day.
Sorry, non-members cannot invite. You can also not invite yourself.
SOME MORE STUFF
If you would like to join but not received an invite, then please place a thumbnail of your image that you think deserves the award in the thread provided.
Only Images bearing the Flickrs Top Vintage Logo are to be uploaded to the group pool. Please remember to 'Tag' your image 'topvintage'
Images without 'Invite' will be removed from the pool without notice. Please be aware that EVERY image should have an invite or award in order to be on the pool. If you added an image without invite and it was removed by an admin, DO NOT add it again until the image has received an invite or award.
Admin Favourite Of The Month (this changes at the beginning of every month)
From ♥Special Pets♥2Poodles-2Cats-2Rats♥
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/petsofme/4376841125/]
All about photographing of flowers, including flowers on flowering vines, flowers on fruit-bearing trees, and flowers on flowering shrubs. As for leaves, 4-leaf clover leaf sets are allowed here. Even parts of flowers are allowed. Even grass flowers are permitted as well, and so, too, are seedheads including those on dandelions. And if you have flowers floating in water or growing in water like water lilies, please feel free to include them as well, thank you. Even photos of either just artificial flowers or a combination of artificial and real flowers are welcome. And also videos within the group rules and up to 90 seconds now permitted.
No limit for adding photos or videos. The limit for this group doesn't ever change as long as I am still part of this group and as the original starting admin or as the head admin.
Junk comments, including anything obscene, are not allowed. Also, NO nudity and pornography photos will be permitted. Only Safe items are permitted. Off-topic discussions like religion, politics or violent crimes will NOT be accepted - they will be immediately deleted without warning. The only exceptions are environmental issues. Those in the Administration are not allowed to be blocked. Anybody disobeying these rules will be in trouble. And members whose photos and videos are those stolen from other sources will be banned and not allowed back in. These are STRICT rules.
Mosaics, two-in-one photos, Photo Shop modified, scanned Polaroids, bouquets of flowers and panoramics are also permitted here. Also, photos inverted to look like part of a set of negatives from a film used in a 35-mm camera are also permitted.
Black-And-White and Sepia photos are pemitted. Same with creations using flowers in sites like Dumpr, Flickr Toys and Picnik are welcome as well.
This group doesn't have themes by the week, month or year, ever.
Invite your friends or contacts if interested.
Unless photos are either completely deleted or replaced by the original admin of this group, none of the photos posted by the original or head admin can be removed by anybody but the original or head admin until he or she has to leave Flickr.
Found Photographs
Dear members and would-be members. Please take time to read the original guidelines for this group: Any photo, negative, or slide that is "found" either through flea markets, swap meets, garage sales, antique stores, etc. Tell us where you picked it up and if you know anything about its background. This group is not for personal photos (family and friends). Check out the group OLD PHOTOS which better fits that category. Feb 22 2006 :There has recently been a little ill feeling generated about the ownership and provenance of some photographs posted on this group site. Please make sure you have a legitimate claim to ownership of any image posted up here. It is against the principle of the purpose of this group to post up copies of images that have been electronically harvested from other sources, however interesting. Please make sure that any photograph posted here has a description, however brief, about how you came about acquiring the image, why it interests you and any information you may have about it. It should be without saying that you own or have recently owned the image as "hard copy" that you have posted up. The intention is and was always to add interest to what is a peaceful and engaging pursuit-collecting interesting old images. The Administrator may reluctantly have to remove images that do not follow these simple guidelines. Many thanks- and enjoy what you do.
Found photos detectives
Here you can post old photos you have found and that you would like to know more about. Let others help you date the picture or tell you more about the location, the camera, etc, etc. This group is for all those photos you are curious about that make you think about who made it where and when.
Fruit & Veg
For photographs of fruit and vegetables.
We want fruit and vegetables. We also allow mushrooms, nuts and seeds, but would prefer it if you stuck to the fruit and veg.
Please do not post photographs of other things that just happen to have a fruit or vegetable in the photo somewhere - unless it is the main focus of the picture.
No photos of flowers or plants that are going to bear fruit or vegetables - we want to see them when they've grown or are definitely growing on the plant.
Fruit and veg can be growing, on a plate, isolated in macro, cooked, raw, cut, whole, etc. But we must be able to see what it is. We don't want photos of fruit pies if you can't see the fruit!
Funfairs, Fairgrounds and Circuses
Here's the place to post your photos of fairgrounds, funfairs, circuses and carnivals(and boardwalks). I don't really want pictures of trade fairs, animal fairs, county fairs or produce fairs. Funfairs in the UK translate into carnivals and/or amusement parks/theme parks in the USA - hope this helps!
Funny signs
Share those funny signs you see around your town. They might be unusual, weird, cleverly designed or badly worded; we want them all here!
garden architecture
This is a group for photos of buildings and/or architecural structures in a garden (or park) setting. This means things like conservatories, greenhouses, pavilions, summerhouses and gazeboes with some architectural quality, ie. not just any old garden shed! Members may provide up to six shots of the same structure to show inside and out, whole building, garden setting and close ups of interesting details. Shots of plants and planting should be to show context and purpose of the building - not as the main feature. Nor should features such as sculpture, gates, fencing and pots be the main subject of the photos - only incidentals. Contributors should identify the garden and its location, the type of building, the name of the architect/designer (if known) and the date/period of construction.
Geotagged : Vintage photographs
A single group for all geotagged vintage images - creating a historic photographic map of the world. Why the group? Seeing maps from individual collections from Flickr Commons, such as the map of Powerhouse Museum photos makes for fascinating viewing. But then see what great things can be done with such collections: for example the Google Streetview 'Then & Now' mashup from Paul Hagon; or the ability to walk around Sydney finding vintage images with your mobile phone and revisit specific locations. All this makes me realise what huge potential there is - just think about things like that available on a global scale? It's all possible, if only there was a single place to find all such images. What images to add Please feel free to upload as many images as you like, with just two rules: - images must have been taken c 1945 or earlier - images must be geotagged How to add images I find the easiest way to add images is to go to Organize and choose the Groups tab. Then from teh drop-down list above the thumbnails of your photos select Your geotagged content. Choose the vintage images you want to upload (shift-click for a single block of multiple images, control-click for individual selections) and drag them to the group.
Getty Images on Flickr
Welcome to Getty Images on Flickr This group, supported by staff from both Getty Images and Flickr, is a place where you can ask questions and find answers about the Flickr Collection on Getty Images. The Flickr Collection on Getty Images will debut in March. What to do -- Have you checked out Getty Images or have a look at their reel to get a sense of what they're all about? They're a leader in the field of rights managed images. -- Read the extensive FAQs. There's a wealth of information there. -- The world of rights managed imagery is extremely complex. This group is a great place to ask the Getty Images experts advice on editing, licensing, model and property releases, etc. -- Respect your fellow members. What not to do -- This isn't a place to pimp your photography whether you've received an invitation or not. -- Be "that" guy. Time out on the naughty mat will be given. -- Stray off topic. This group is related to the Flickr Collection on Getty Images.
Glass Negatives
Photographic images obtained from glass negatives, dry plate (emulsion) or wet plate (collodion). You can scan the negative, or scan a print from the negative. Experiments with alternative process printing (cyanotype, van dyke, bromoil, etc.) is encouraged. Most glass negatives are antiques, and not created by the poster. Please provide a description of the image and how you aquired it (made it yourself, passed down by family, flea market, etc.). Be sure to check out the group for tintypes (metal backed positives), ambrotypes (glass positives) and wet plate (glass positives or negatives): www.flickr.com/groups/wetplate/.
Glass slides
A very old way of producing photos is on glass slides. I have a series of slides in age ranging from 70 to more than 100 years old. Recently I discovered that my scanner works superbly and reproduces the slides admirably. In this group arfe the slides I have copied.
