Hull Trawler Challenge success!

Hull Trawler H1 SS Canada Last Thursday I launched the Hull Trawler Challenge, featuring 70+ images of life on board two Hull fishing vessels from c. 1910.

It’s been a great success. We’ve narrowed down the dates, identified some more of the ships, and even had someone come forward who could well be the grandson of one of the men featured.

On top of that, there’s been a feature in the Yorkshire Post, they’ll be pieces in several magazines next month, and tomorrow I’m being interviewed for the BBC Look North regional TV programme.

All good fun!

Phototrek in the New Forest

The lonely life of the professional photographer!

Way back last summer the kids bought me a voucher for my 40th birthday to go on a phototrek in the New Forest. After a failed first attempt thanks to storms back in November, I finally made it down there.

The treks are organised by local photographers Ian Badley and Barry Whitcher, under the banner of www.photonewforest.com/.

Turned out to be a great day, and although we didn’t get much sunshine the weather stayed kind to us. Would recommend these New Forest phototreks to anyone, beginner or expert.

There’s a nice audio slideshow, with some stunning pictures, now available on the BBC site – Audio slideshow: Discovering a ‘lost forest’.

It’s covered in more depth on the Kew site – “Google Earth helps Kew put ‘lost forest’ of Mount Mabu on the conservation map”
